DISQ

The NICEIC offer an equivalent to the Domestic Electrical Installer qualification called the DISQ (Domestic Installer Scheme Qualification) offering different levels depending on the amount of installation work that the contractor will be carrying out. It also enables registration with the competent person scheme in accordance with Part P of the Building Regluations.

AM2

The AM2 or Achievement Measurement 2 is a completely external and independent assessment of abilities required to complete an apprenticeship. It is otherwise known as a Practical Performance Assessment(PPA). It is also the only PPA that is run giving it a bit of a monopoly and long waiting list to take it.

ECS

The JIB assesses applicants in accordance with the CSCS scheme ensuring tradesmen are suitably qualified and aware of health and safety issues. In particular, the ECS or Electrotechnical Certification Scheme, ensure that an electrician or equivalent has had electrical safety training. Some of the larger construction firms now insist on having the card. This qualification is vital of you are to achieve a JIB grade.

PEO (Performing Engineering Options) with Electrical Installation units

The City and Guilds offer an engineering course known as the PEO. This is a modular course requiring the completion of a certain number of units depending on whether studied at Level 1 or Level 2. It is an NVQ and is one of a very select few that can be completed within a purely simulated environment. Although it is primarily an engineering course, the units selected can have an almost complete electrical installation bias, enabling colleges and training providers to use the course as an introduction to electrical installation studies. It enables students to create a portfolio of work to present to employers when looking to get an apprenticeship.

City & Guilds 2372 Level 3 Photovoltoaic (Solar) Installation

The C&G2372qualifications covers fitting, installing and testing the system components that comprise a photovoltaic system (also called a PV system). The course content covers health and safety, knowledge of regulations, PV systems and components, roofing, commissioning and testing and also customer care.

It is assessed via a 20 question short answer written paper with 1 long answer question and also the assessment of a PV installation on a roofing rig.
